About Me
Little more background.
There’s a line in the movie Rocky Balboa where Rocky says, “It ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” Rocky’s words of wisdom is my philosophy for communications and public relations.
Strategic communication is like boxing; it’s the thinking person’s game. It’s all about knowing when to throw the first punch, when to counter, and what blows to give and when to give them. You’re going to get hit, knocked down, but you cannot be deterred. You have to keep pressing to win. I was tested in this regard throughout my time working in state government during the pandemic, learning more than some communications professionals do in a whole career. Before that, I provided creative marketing, branding, and content creation for public and private organizations for nearly a decade. Marketing expertise and battle-tested PR is a solid one-two punch.
Many communication professionals have a journalism foundation, whereas my background is in creative writing and filmmaking. I’m a storyteller and writer by default with an MA in Creative Writing, some published work, and a couple of awards for movies I’ve written. I’m also a political science nerd with a MA in Global/Social Issues and BA in Government. Knowing and understanding political repercussions for your rhetoric is part of a solid communication toolkit.
